About
Dave Dinesen is a serial entrepreneur and the CEO of CubicFarms, a local chain ag-tech company founded by farmers. With a focus on mission and building great teams, Dave is committed to applying technology to address global challenges like food security and climate change. At CubicFarms, Dave leads a world-class team of growers and engineers developing automated vertical farming technology for growing fresh produce and animal feed. Energy and water-efficient, CubicFarms’ onsite systems are commercially scalable and can be installed anywhere on earth to grow crops year-round. Prior to joining CubicFarms in 2015, Dave founded BackCheck, an HR technology company focused on all aspects of employee screening, which he grew from a startup to more than 500 employees with operations in three countries. Dave sold BackCheck to US-based competitor Sterling InfoSystems in 2012. The joined companies were renamed “SterlingBackcheck” and Dave joined the executive committee in New York. The company was later acquired which provided an exit opportunity for Dave. While contemplating his next ventures, he knew that ag-tech was Canada's next big revolution. When he’s not crusading to develop technologies that enable locally-grown nutritious food, you can find Dave playing lead guitar for KICKDRIVE, a Vancouver based rock-pop group, along with his oldest son Jordan. Dave is also Chairman of ModoHR, a fully integratable Canadian background screening company, and founding partner at WideOcean Strategies Ltd., a boutique strategic consulting and venture capital firm.
